A little bit about myself
Originally I was born in Calgary, Alberta, and now, after many years of travel, have found myself growing roots in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
As a young artist surrealism was my favoured style. I often fantasized realistic (or semi realistic) characters grouped together to create fantastic situations.
Slowly as I matured, my art became more grounded in the visual aspects of everyday life, and my work came to express the appreciation of the world around me. But even now, after all these years I still feel a longing to see a gargoyle crouched in my yard, or a dragon soaring amongst the clouds. I hope my fantasies never completely grow up.
Later, I attended the Gemological Institute of Santa Monica in the early 80’s where I was schooled in the fascinating art of goldsmithing. Wax carving, soldering, design and casting metal was a totally new experience for me which I enjoyed immensely and my new knowledge drew me towards larger projects encorporating welding torches and rebar. Although I no longer work in the Jewellery field, metallurgy continues to hold a special place in my heart.
Much of my painting inspiration comes from our spectacular west coast scenery although I have been greatly influenced by many different people and countries I have visited. I am awed by the beauty and diversity the entire world has to offer.
As opposed to concentrating on one specialized style, I am currently lost on a tangent of discovery, taking me through various mediums and tecniques. Experiencing the newness of the unknown fills me with the joy and wonder that to me is creation. I have enjoyed the art of sculpting and painting for over 30 years.
